How to Get Your Texas Fishing License

Obtaining your license is simple, and there are several convenient options available:

Buy Online

The fastest and most convenient way is through the Texas Parks and Wildlife website:

You can purchase and print your license instantly or save a digital version to your phone. We recommend doing this at least a day before your trip to avoid delays the morning of your charter.

Buy In Person

Fishing licenses are available at most sporting goods stores, Walmart locations, bait shops, and other TPWD-approved retailers throughout Texas. If you're staying in Galveston, ask us and we can point you to the closest location.

Buy by Phone

Call the TPWD directly at (800) 895-4248. Licenses can be purchased with a credit card and mailed or emailed to you.

What Kind of License Do You Need?

For fishing with Rock N Roll Charters, you’ll need a saltwater fishing license with a Saltwater Endorsement. Here’s a breakdown of the most common license options:

  • Resident All-Water Fishing Package
  • Non-Resident All-Water Fishing Package
  • 1-Day All-Water Fishing License (Resident or Non-Resident) – Perfect for short trips or visitors.

Children under 17, Texas residents born before January 1, 1931, and some veterans and persons with disabilities may qualify for exemptions—be sure to check TPWD rules for eligibility.

Additional Tips for Guests

  • Everyone 17 and older must carry a valid license while fishing on a Rock N Roll Charters trip.
  • Don’t forget to bring a printed or digital copy with you on the day of your trip.
  • Some species may require tags (e.g., Tarpon), and Captain Jim will inform you of any special regulations that apply.
  • Fishing licenses are not included in your charter fee—please secure yours before your trip date.
